David:
I am reviewing the different classes offered in the LAMPSIG site in order to see what I can find of any use.
The full blog link besides the PHP redirects the user to the current situation with MySQL , which is a little confusing. Besides, there is no reference to the previous classes of PHP , so one goes looking for one subject and finds another.
Regards, J.

    Dear Sir/Madam:

In what refers to your site:
I have followed the evolution from the previous site and it is very good.
I would suggest to put more emphasis in describing through pictures and videos what is going on. You are making an important contribution to the education of people and this 2005 , the media that you have in your site "have to incllude" multimedia links.
I am assuming that you want to keep the design as simple as possible to reach as many people and browseers as possible , so then give them options to link to the multimedia section. I am saying this in the best interest of your group.

I wonder if somebody in the group can help me with this:

I have recently visited the LAMPSIG locations in CA and I was introduced to some of the people in the LAMPSIG group by Ken Wyrick
I am a develiper in a variety of techniques, PHP, MySQL , ASP, etc.
I need some help with the ftp functions and PHP. Specifically the ftp_get, that is working well in my envrionment but interacting "only" with the server when I create a local file.
I mean the local file is created in the server during the process of downloading.
Looking forward to hear from you,
Sharon,

This is one of the most clearcut syllabi I've ever seen in the computer communities in the LA areas. Most groups, while organizing classes & meetings, do not have syllabi. Yoy did the greatest job, setting an example for LAMP-sig.

Keep it up, Sharon.

Well, for those who survived the MySQL lab tonight ... Congrats :)

The main goal of the lab was to be able to work in an environment which gave you access to a mysql server and client. It doesn't matter whether that environment was provided by Knoppix Linux LiveCD, or some other MySQL server to which you have access. The main thing was to be able to connect to the MySQL server. If you weren't planning on using the environment provided by the Knoppix Linux Live CD, a secondary goal was the installation of the sample world database in the environment in which you will be working.

If you either didn't attend the lab tonight, or have not yet established your MySQL working environment, please try and do so prior to the first class meeting on May 2 as this material will not be covered again during the regular class meeting. If you need help, please post to the lamp-user list.

If the crowd attending tonight's lab was any indication, the class is going to be crowded. If you have not rsvped and reserved a spot it is unlikely that there will be room. A closely related request is that if you attended tonight's lab and decided that this is not the class for you, then please email me at sharon_AT_linuxchixla_(DOT)_org and let me know so I can add students on the waiting list.

Some useful resources that were mentioned tonight:

The lab class notes preparated by tonight's instructor, David Benjamin
peterbenjamin.com/~david/lab.html

Online MySQL manual
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/index.html

The sample 'world' database .sql file can be found on the mysql site at the following url under _Examples_ and the MySQL manual can be found under _MySQL References_
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/

If you are not yet subscribed to the lamp-user list you can do so at
http://maillist.lampsig.org/mailman/listinfo/lamp-user_maillist.lampsig.org

Remember, even if you are using the Knoppix Linux LiveCD, an extensive knowledge of Linux is not required. All that is required for this class is to be able to get to the MySQL command line client :) But a general sense of how to get around in the file system would be helpful. Given that, here are a few Linux related links which might prove helpful.

For those new to Linux the Malta Users Group bash tutorial
